Life of Leaps
I find myself nearing a cliff,
too terrified to move in any direction.
A cool breeze rushes against me
as the salty sea air wafts up around me.
Eyes closed, I try to find transcendence.
I am met with the image of eyes,
as dark as the feathers of a raven.
Involuntarily, my legs carry me forward.
I am met with an overwhelming aroma of cologne,
so strong it covers the once prominent scent of the sea.
I hear his rich, kind voice over the crashing waves.
It speaks my name and I feel myself smile.
My eyes fly open and I'm standing on the cliff's edge,
a mess of rocks and ice blue water below.
One more feeling fills me, one of his hand in mine,
and it guides me as I step over the edge.
As I descend, I wonder which fate I take;
the water’s gentle caress or the ridges’ sharp sting.
