Scared of the Dark
Little boy calls out for mama
Look in my closet!
Little girl calls out for papa
Its under the bed!
Perhaps it is then we are smartest
Then, as innocence and naivete personified
For we see in the dark the shadows of the day
And we know they are not ours to live among
We know they are not ours to dream among
For they are the dreams lost by the day
The dreams claimed by tick tock, and left to rot
To sleep among them is to war with them
To live among them to declare mastery of them
Yet we are the masters of naught and little more
So pardon my childishness when I say I am scared
Pardon my shouts when the light extinguishes
Pardon my jumps when something stirs in the night
Pardon my nightmares when the lost dreams crawl into mine
But do not pardon my fear in the light of day
Do not pardon my fear of the future
Do not pardon my fear of not knowing
Not in the light of day
