As I rinse my hands
Of your blood
I silently think about
What I’ve done.

It may not have been right
But the abuse was too much.
I needed to end your life
Before mine was up.

“How will you explain this?”
Your soul speaks to me.
“They’ve got you on record,
They know you used to beat me, darling.”

“You think that’s enough?”
You speak to me again.
“Of course it is honey. My body started bruising when
The fighting came to an end.”

“And our son? How will he react
To what you‘ve done?”
“I will tell him that it was best for his life. How could you not want
A better life for our son?”

The doorbell rings.
The police are here
Red and blue lights flash through the window.
“They’ve come for you dear.”

I walk to down the stairs
And lead them in.
I show them what I've done
And cry as I sit.

“What happened here?”
The one officer says.
“I couldn’t take the abuse anymore.
If I didn’t kill him, I’d be the one dead.”
