"All say, 'how hard it is that we have to die'-a strange complaint to come from the mouths of people who have had to live." ---- Mark Twain

He walks with a limp
But he calls it his swag,
He’s got all that he owns
In two duffle bags.

The hoops in his courts
Don’t have any nets,
And if you ask where he lives
He’ll say he forgets.

All the folks in his town
Know his first and last names
And they all stop to watch
His basketball games.

He has so much promise
They say with a frown
Because all of them know
He won’t get out of this town.

He dribbles the ball
As he wanders the streets,
With a smile and nod
For each person he meets.

He dropped out of school
With just one year to go,
And when people ask why
He says, I don’t know.

He’s happy with life
Or so he claims,
He says he’s content
With his basketball games.

But he longs for a child
And he longs for a wife,
Too bad it’s too late
To have a good life.

So he runs to his courts
That he’s come to call home,
And plays basketball games
So he won’t feel alone.
