"I don't like lollipops!" -Artemis Fowl

The wind buffets me,
Teasing like a deceptive friend, playing with the ends of my hair.
Its mocking cold seeps through countless layers,
Even skin, clutching my heart
With oppressive fingers.
A coat of frost covers everything
With frozen beauty, but it can’t hide
Its slipperiness, like a seasoned thief.
Even the glaring brightness of the snow itself
Forbids a snowman to chase away the gloom.
I tried to build one, but the body
Crumbled to powder and was cast aside
By dissembling nature.
The nights are long, the days hiding like a shy child behind its mother,
Always a fleeting shadow, then night again, and another
And I wonder if it’ll never end.
I have waged war against winter,
And now with the very ground beneath me as my white flag
I stand in defeat, shivering.
