My heart hammering
against my ribcage
my palms sweaty
my brain whirring
my stomach churning
because that next text
is a mystery
and I'm dreading what it's going to say.
Please don't be mad
for leading you on
but in my defense
I love you.
Just...
not like that.
Not the way you wish I did.
And I don't want to lie to you anymore
But I don't want to hurt you anymore
either.
But of course
I don't see a happy medium.
