Cigarettes by the bedside table,
Ashes in the sheets.
Burns on skin that's worn too thin.
The innocent count sheep.
She let him scratch the surface.
The virgins see the scars.
Nervous when the deed is done,
moreso than when it starts.
She told him not to smoke inside
Rekindled feeds the blaze.
Cigarette burns on a paper heart.
The clarity, the haze.
