Mother and Daughter
Let’s face it:
You did not become the person you wanted to be
And I did not grow up to be the girl
You wished to see
Sometimes, I resent you
For reasons I cannot say
I must hide them
All the way
I sometimes question
Why it’s me you hate
Is it something I did?
Can I say sorry, or is it too late?
You yell
And I scream
Put you and me together,
And we won’t make for a perfect team
Sometimes, I wonder
Why we fret
And speak the things
We know we’ll regret
But somehow
I know
You aren’t
My foe
That sometimes we get
Lost in words
And we feel like flying away,
Transforming into birds
I know you love me,
And I love you back
It’s just understanding,
That’s what we lack
But if I had to
Save a life
I’d choose yours,
It would cause me no strife
There is only
One reason
That applies to every
Place, time, and season
You are
My mum
And wherever I am,
That’s where I wish you’d come
