An ancient woman came to me in a dream
Old and young, we made quite the team

I told her to leave, this was my mind
But she said she could tell me something in books or computers, I would never find

I begged her to say what she knew
But she wouldn’t, it seemed she was waiting for my cue

She began, You don’t want to know what the world has in store
The truth has made me so old and sore

But I said I was grown and needed to know
And begged and begged, like a stubborn, chirping crow

She whispered into the curve of my ear, the secrets of the world
And into myself, I curled

The woman seemed as fragile as an egg yolk
But what evil she spoke!

Happiness fleets
And long do live the cheats

Illness exhists
Nothing can stop it, not the pounding of fists

Hearts break
Life is never a piece of cake

People lie, people kill
Out of passion or pride, or sheer will

Stop! I roared, a plea
I don’t want to listen, don’t you see?

And I saw the tears roll down her ancient face
An emotion, not sadness or grief, something I couldn’t place

Yes, she said
Stroking my face, an angry red

People may lie
And the good might die

And we may bleed,
And the hungry might go without feed

But little things perservere
Lilacs and rainclouds, no need to fear

And these little things will be
Something always to look forward to, for you and me

A cool night breeze
And buzzing bumblebees

A shady tree
A cup of nice, hot tea

A friend giving a hug
A puppy, maybe a pug

A strumming guitar
A jelly jar

The old lady smiled, and her tears dried
She said, gravity we will not defy

Lives we may not save
And a path to a new world we will not pave

But maybe a little bliss every now and then
Will make life better, even if its not a perfect ten

So, I stood, my body shaking
Wishing for all the world that she was faking

But, maybe she was right,
Though I wanted to argue, put up a fight

Maybe her words were true
And if the world is not so great, maybe I just need to see it in a different hue

This is something I wrote a while ago. It isn't my best work, but I wanted to submit it anyway.
