Autumn Nights
The crisp night air brushes across your face
as you breathe
in and out,
in and out,
silently taking it all in,
unaware of the rest of the world;
nothing but the stars overhead
glistening in the blackened sky,
daylight slowly fading;
you hear the crickets singing
see the fireflies resting in the unmowed lawn
anxiously anticipating the dawn;
across the street you can see the outline of a tree,
for now it is just an outline,
but in the light, you know its true colors;
you lay in the bed of the familiar pickup truck
without a care in the world
about the time or day;
you just lay there,
silently taking it all in,
as you breathe
in and out,
in and out.
