Straightjacket
I thought that I was being
confined and held in and
restricted
And yet I made my own world
inside the limits, and I broke them
In my head
And I had a happy life,
and I didn't really mind the dullness
Or only a little
And I laughed there,
Laughter that you can only get behind bars
When you are escaping
Together
And yet when they gave me the opportunity
to get out of the straight-jacket
I jumped at it,
barely thinking twice
rarely second guessing.
And so when they let me out
into the open world
I had been trapped for so long
Entrapment had become safety
Freedom was nothing but unfamiliar
And strange and lonely,
And I wanted nothing more than my straight-jacket
