Thoughts
you can take every word I write
and tear it to pieces
(you almost have)
You can take everything I say
Every opinion or defense I state
And keep it locked from your mind
You can say they are terrible
Because they are not yours
(you have, too many times)
You can even take the words I read
Call them trash, make them trash
(you have)
Saying they’ll polute me
(but I’m already polluted
As you love to state)
But you can never have
The words I lock away
The words that do not
Flow or stumble from my mouth
In waves of ungracious sound
But bounce instead
Off the walls of my skull
Just under my eyes
Where you can know they are lurking
But never reach them
You cannot have these words
For they are my thoughts
My sanctuary
If all other words are lost
