Starved Artist
She drew the world once
Every simple wondrous thing
All things hidden
All creatures forgotten
And she always felt honored
To have seen them
And preserved them in gray
But she is older now, and
The gray has seeped
From the pages out into
Her sky and her walls
The flowers are trodden on
The forgotten creatures all but gone
The children whose smiles
Made her elated
Put her pen to the pages
Are violets now
Who shrink from her hands
