Four Years, and You Still Know My Name?
I’m putting pen to paper because if I don’t,
Something tells me I’ll suffocate.
Sleep does not make an easy fix for when I close my eyes,
My emotions plague my dreams.
So I will toss and turn and stare into darkness,
Wondering how I got into this state of mind.
I’m stuck.
I can’t form the words,
The ones that must escape my lips.
When I think of you,
My heart grows an inch.
With all the time that has passed by,
You have remained by my side.
That fact alone can fill a dried out lake with the sweetest tears.
Every bone in my body believes that Fate decided it’d be best for our lives to be intertwined, our paths crossed.
My fondness for you runs deeper than you can imagine.
How I wish I could give you a penny for your thoughts,
So I know the balance of affection isn’t weighing down on my side.
I’m not entirely sure what I would do without your existence,
Our friendship overwhelms me that much.
I’m throwing out a rope, a silver string,
In hopes that it reaches Michigan and you’ll share this bond with me.
Dare I call you my best friend, dare I say you are a part of me?
Most of all, dare I make an determined attempt to reach deep,
And find your soul, find your heart, find your mind?
I have no doubt I would take your place
if Death wanted you buried six feet under.
Until then,
Just grow with me.
You see that yellow brick road?
It’s for us and it’s paved with potential,
Opportunity.
When you are finally arms lengths,
I will know that our four years and our memories attached to distance
Has led up to that miraculous moment.
So until then.
