Wake up. Brush up. Wash up. Make up.
Toast it. Eat it. Pour it. Drink it.
Let it settle. Grab that screaming kettle.
Dog needs to pee. Cat’s ran up another tree.
Little brother’s out of bread, says it’s all on my head.
Mother’s running late for another urgent date.
Dad’s back again. Forgot his keys in the den.
Rush up. Run down. Grab keys. Look around.
Finally the dog has peed. The cat is out of the tree.
Mom found her case. She’s not going to be all that late.
Dad’s tie is on. His coffee’s warm. His jacket… only a little torn.
I run. I rush. I walk up to that bus.
Only one block left to go, gonna take it slow.
Catch my breath, feeling calm. Gonna make it after all.
Just as I think I’m in the clear, up pulls my bus, time to rush.
Outta Breath. Outta time. Missed my bus, dropped my dime.
Tomorrow always comes so soon.
