It was then that I peered straight into the depths of your soul.
I am eternally grateful for what I discovered there,
although the end was punctuated by the low humming
of music, pulsating steadily and rhythmically.
I discovered salty breaths of air and beautiful brushstrokes
that outline the gold-encrusted details in the
artwork of your magnificent and effervescent lies.
I discovered the red outlines of words that pardoned
wrongdoings, and the coffee-stained excuses that
never seemed to matter.
I discovered the satisfying look of your moonlit smile,
and the whites of your eyes looking up at the crescent,
and the rustling of leaves catching your attention;
you looked away. But it was there, for a moment,
an ever-present yet ever-fleeting moment;
you were in love with the moon.
I discovered ringlets of hope tangled with
tendrils of flight that exuded lighthearted
carefree sensations of prickling doubt.
I discovered that you walked forward,
and were enveloped by the sun;
its rays enclosed you and you were a mere
outline in the bright light.
You turned toward me, and it was then,
in that diminutive second of nothingness,
a lost treasure in a vast sea, that
you looked into my soul as well.
