Take Off
As a child, this was always my favorite game—
Hiding behind an object and hoping to get away—
The adrenaline of not being caught today.
You yell, “Not it” and go your separate ways,
But try not to get stuck, or you’ll never get
Away.
Rushing through grass and sticks—
Try not to get pricked.
Don’t venture too far—
You might not be able to see the car.
The spot where you’re safe—
We called base.
No hiding around it
Or near it
Or you’ll be it.
I loved this game so very much,
But I could never reach the truck.
So hop on the four-wheeler and fly off,
We called it “Take off”
A little different than hide and go seek—
We used ATV’s.
