Snowfall
Snow falls, less hesitant now
Racing to the ground,
The frowning, yawning, grumbling ground
It coats all in white, a Queen’s white
Nature’s courtly splendor. Majesty
Peaceful, the trees make no sound
From behind cold cold glass I watch
A lovely dance, a splendid rush
Building up, then bunching together
At an angle, bent slantways by the wind
Whirling whirling, feathery flakes
A crystalline snow-globe,
With patches of color here and everywhere
Poe’s Raven above the street
A witness to the whiteness
He disappears; a black cloaked human counterpart passes below
Cold, a white brick road
A silent brick road.
None dare disturb it
Oh! to be free,
Free as a snowflake
No bounds, no destinations, carefree and listless
Hovering ‘bove heav’n and ‘low the Curtain
Can it be – a snowflake can travel down and back?
Will it survive the journey?
Now it stops, outside the window
A subdued storm.
All is quiet
And the frost reigns
