"Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it."- Bill Cosby

Things were always easier
When we were just high schoolers
The drama was which guy was cuter
And what outfit should we wear that day
And what to get for lunch
Things were always easier
When you just sat in classes all day
Write down notes and raise your hand
And then reply to text messages
Hidden from the teacher
Things were always easier
When you had friends to talk to all day long
And the only thing you ever paid for
Was clothes, and cell phones, and music
And going to the movies with a date
Things were always easier
When we were just high schoolers

But now the drama is deciding
Whether to buy gas or to buy groceries
If you have enough clothes for the week
And if you’ll have enough money for anything
Things are now more difficult than ever
You sit in a cubicle or small office all day
Filling out job applications
And calling to hope you have a new job
And then deleting the emails that say otherwise
Things are more difficult than ever
Your friends have all left you for their families
And now you pay for everything
With the paycheck of minimal wage
Yes things were always easier
When we were just high schoolers
But then we stepped off the cliff
Into the real world
