Why is it
In books and movies
That no matter
the problem
Nothing seems
As bad
As real life?

Why do I even
Watch movies
Or read books
When it’s such a fable
In comparison
To real life?

How do I
Let myself
Go into such a
Different world
Where everything
Just seems better?

How do I
Let myself
Get my hopes up
That my life will
Be just like it?

How do I
Let myself
Believe that when
I close the book
Or turn off the T.V
That things will be
Different?

Why do I even like
To watch movies
Or read books
When it just makes
My life seem pathetic
And boring
And never-ending?

Why?
It’s the closest
My life will ever get to
Happily ever after.

"What Fresh Hell is this?"

We watch movies, because we want to get away from real life. We want to get away from the pain, corruption, and hurt. Movies and books gaves us hope. They make us think, that maybe the world isn't as bad as it seems...

"I was outta luck the day the music died." -American Pie (the song)

i seem to face the same problem. Us booklovers must stand united, yes? your poem really captures how most readers must feel (especially those who frequent this site). i'm going to steal a line from my favorite movie, Ever After with Drew Barrymore. "The most important part is that they simply lived." And that is all we can ever ask.

You know that you are in love when the hardest thing to do is say good-bye!!

Hey remember me you commented on my work on the poem He's Gone. Not only do I love this piece but I completely understand it. Every time I watch a movie or read a book I find myself wishing that life was really like that.

This is totally true, and I can relate to this more than anything.
