The Carpet
There might have been a carpet,
But that was a long time ago.
Before I unpacked my things,
When it was new,
Now there is a new carpet
Made of layers of shirt books and papers.
There might have been a carpet,
But that was a long time ago.
Before my belongings decided to cover it up,
Lyingshouldertoshoulder,
Covering it in a blanket of possessions
Cushioning it carelessly.
There might have been a carpet,
But that was a long time ago.
Before it was blanketed in belongings,
Piles and piles of shirts shoes and dresses,
Fighting for space in between countless books,
Drowning in the tons of forgotten papers.
There might have bee a carpet,
But that was a long time ago.
