to live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong

when i first learned to draw
all i created were scribbles
of color and incomplete ideas
being so young and innocent,
i never thought i was wrong

as the years went by,
you gave me the courage
to not be afraid to
color outside of the lines

you influenced my passion and fascination
for a pencil and paper
and how inspiration and imagination
could flow
from such simple materials

events arose in my life
that were unavoidable

slowly, i drifted away from reality
my mind occupied with other things
creativity burned dull ashes
at the end of his cigarette
but in the back of my mind
your words faded in and out,
barely a whisper
but one whisper
rose above the rest,

"let it out"
and so i did

i let out all my pain and anger
i let it all go.

because of you, i was able to
breathe again
and see the world as beautiful

and i hope you remember
that you didn't teach me to draw,
you taught me how to find the wind.
