Promises

I can’t promise you forever,
But I can promise you a while.
I can't promise you endless laughter,
But I can promise you a smile.
I can’t promise you perfection,
For that I have not achieved,
But I can promise you love,
For in that I do believe.
I can’t promise I won’t hurt you,
That I won’t break your heart..
But I’ll promise to give my all;
I’ll give a lot just at the start.
They say promises are broken,
They are right, in a way.
For promises are always there-
Just a few more steps away.
