The Swimmer
she jumps
nothing can conceal the thrill
bursting inside of her like an
over-filled water balloon,
that she gets when in a competition
win, win, win
is all she is thinking,
as her heart beats faster than
ever before
one breathe
a loud noise fills the air
sploosh, smack, splash,
she is in the water
the cold shock is lost on her,
she is thinking too hard about nothing
everything feels so
dreamlike underwater,
but wait,
i have a race to win
she says
one stroke after another
pushing on,
not caring about fatigue,
enjoying this competitive state of mind,
and the dreamless one
where her body is controlled
by one word,
swim
