Shatter
It's not the end. I'm not done.
There's more I have to say.
Why are you turning?
Where are you going?
Why are you leaving?
Tears fall from your face.
They freeze in mid air
And shatter on the ice.
I see you glide away
Off into the distance.
I told you I loved you.
Why is that so wrong?
Is that what made you cry?
I begin to call after you.
I receive no response
But blades on crystal glass.
I push myself forward.
I go in your direction.
I hear you scream.
Then you are no more.
You vanish under the ice.
I push myself harder.
Finally I get to you.
Your breaths are short.
Painful and wheezy.
I try with all my might
To pull you out.
Eventually I do so.
Your body is shaking.
Your face is blue.
You mutter out sad words.
"I'm sorry. I don't feel the same."
I try to respond and say it's okay.
I say I can wait for you
No matter what it takes.
These words of mine,
They come too late.
You give out your last breath
And sink into my arms.
Tears flood my eyes.
They spill over and drip.
They freeze in mid air
And shatter on the ice.
