Done With This War
Out on the battlefield waiting to die
Listening intently as bullets whiz by
Thinking 'why am I here, fighting to defend
My country, my nation until the very end?'
Yes why?
Because of a minor deviation?
Because no one will fess up and admit they were wrong?
These are the reasons I’m not where I belong
Which is home, with my kids watching them become strong
No, instead I’m here watching others suffer and die
If I said that I could stand it, well, that would be a lie
Because I can’t
I won’t be part of this quarrel any longer
Waiting to grow older, for my heart to get colder
Sighting cowardly people hiding behind guns
And other weapons of destruction, murdering the sons
And daughters of our world
Yeah the world
The one we call home with so little care
The one that we all live in but can’t seem to share
Where instead of living under one peaceful rule,
Where everyone has a say no matter what their role
Is in life –
Who they are or where they come from
Thinking what they’re doing has a prize to be won
All I know now is that I’m done
So I leave the safety of my cover and lay down my gun
At the center of the field for everyone to see
So if they wish to be free of fighting, then they can follow me
To leave this war behind
And have liberty to roam
I don’t know if they’re coming
But I know I’m going home
