Classic Reactions
You were by my side
In my pocket
In my shoes
When I wrote our names with chemicals
With polar theories, cold and hard
With elements
With rules
When we found those silver orbitals
Five of them-
Or worse,
When we stripped away equations
To identify the words
And then looked away
Embarrassed
By those little lies we saw
And I know that we both felt their souls
But both continued on
And when the easy things left
In lines of nine and three
We tattooed their symbols
On our ears
And listened,
You and me…
You were building arrows
When I was lost inside my lungs
When each lonely push was painful
And I tripped with empty hands
When I defeated gravity
And floated to your door
You told me much is solid,
But intangibles mean more
I pointed to another loss
You followed after me
And we sang;
I reached soprano
And you belted bass off key
And no, I never loved you
And I don’t think you loved me
But we both loved when I smiled
At the things
We couldn’t see
