Numb Is The Absence Of Feeling
Darkness envelopes the unborn child in the womb
And night clutches its dead, locked inside the tomb
Blood now pumps through the child’s veins
When not long before, her sister’s had been drained
The child’s cheek is as red as the rose
That she carefully lies on the ground that has frozen
She remembers the last time that she saw her face
The look of pale color, of new snow and lace
On the rose falls a trembling tear
The child is filled with sorrow and fear
Fear of the hurt that is clouding her mind
Fear of leaving her sister behind
The woman cries freely, she’s clutching the grave
She thinks of the life that her daughter gave
She whispers, “I love you,” with misty eyes
And recalls the accident that severed all ties
The man cries alone at night
And thinks the thoughts he knows aren’t right
He thinks he’s the one they should blame
He hangs his head in whole-hearted shame
It was her life that mattered
But like glass, it’s been shattered
Like the child’s glass doll, sis’s eyes are glazed
And sis has been frozen for so many days
The child sheds yet another tear
Even after the ninth year
And as the tear falls from her eye
She finally knows it’s time to say goodbye
