On the night of July 19, I snatched a dove from the sky
Perched her on my mantle and fed her graciously.
Her soft, white feathers reflecting in the sun
was the most beautiful thing I'd seen … in ever
I stroked her feathery head as she looked up at me
oh this innocent little dove
unwillingly showered with my sinister love
I locked my dove away in a cage; she cannot fly
She made my days so heavenly as they slowly passed by
oh this innocent little dove
unwillingly showered with my sinister love
didn't know quite where she was
but she wouldn't fly away, oh the horror
she couldn't fly away, for I cut off both her wings
I gave her less to dream about and even less to sing
oh this innocent little dove
unwillingly showered with my sinister love
was being taken advantage of
Heaven blessed her soul, and soon made her whole
her majestic wings grew back
she would sing a pretty song all through the night
and when I wired her beak shut, she did not put up a fight
for this innocent little dove
unwillingly showered with my sinister love
loved me even more, for the corruption that I was
and this innocent little dove
no matter what time, place, or day
never tried to fly away
perched in her cage she still remains.
