Dear Future Me, I Have Something to Say
I was looking for answers in countless places
Searching for souls in cracks and spaces
Like writing in the clouds
Like in horoscope columns
Or even the inside of fortune cookies
When it came to finding answers I was one of many rookies
I was wishing for things I wanted so badly
I wished so hard it nearly drove me madly
By tossing coins in fountains
By waiting to see shooting stars
Or even holding my breath and closing my eyes while the inside of a tunnel passed me by
The wishes didn’t go through and I couldn’t figure why
I was wanting to belong to a land I never knew
Needing to fit somewhere across many miles blue
Where the voices around me sound like glass shards whirring through a blender
Where new friends and unfamiliar faces are around every corner
Or even where one can fall in love without using their lips for speaking
If I could go to a shack on an island with doors and windows creaking
One year turned to three
Still my prayers hadn’t reached me
Until the day I lay alone
I thought we reap what we sow
But now I know for certain
That we sow the things we’ve yet to reap
