I step in the room.
Trembling, as her majesty glares at me.
Her throne is lined with gleaming rubies and her eyes blaze like white-hot iron.
She clutches a cherry-red box.
And beckons me.

Why?
She glares at me and dreadful words
Exit the corridors of her mouth.
I must bring back her stepdaughter’s heart.

The author's comments:
In “Snow White,” by the Brothers Grimm, Snow White’s stepmother after hearing her stepdaughter was the fairest in the land, flew into a homicidal rage and summoned a huntsman to kill her. This is from the Huntsman’s point of view.
