Life is heaven, life is h.ell
This fact I know too well
I walked down to the preacher
And asked him how to pray
When boys are playing guns in the streets
And my heart’s in disarray
He held his hand up to the light
As if wishing to end the fight
But the devils got there long before
Crossed burning bolts upon the door
But yet the children stop and sing
With bouncing steps and hearts on strings
Their souls are hanging out of their mouths
But it’s never enough, never enough
So tell me one more time, dear
What is it you truly fear
But love and hate
And the disease that is fate
The harps are playing in your ears
Crossed corners dotted with poetic musketeers
All preaching of the golden day
When love can come, and love can stay
But who, tell me
Is dear enough
To round up all the ashes
To bring the arsonists in for tea
Not me, not me
I’m blind, help me see
But arrows are being shot through my heart
Before I can find a way to dart
And so this is my last lament
Don’t hide water in a burning tent
