The purple heart sings a low monotone tune
That halts the day to a dim nightly gloom
This tune has been sung again and again
A broken record unable to mend
Through the time neglected
The love rejected
It was unable to fend.
The melody rusted
The lyrics encrusted
In the sorrow of the purple heart
