Fly Away Home
The tree
rises above me
the bark
rough
ragged
digging into my back
covered only in a
paper thin tank top
Grass makes
a carpet
thick
lush
as I rub my fingers
between every blade
getting my fingers
slightly damp
from leftover
dew
Rubbing my
fingers
on my jeans
softly
I tilt my head
My chin lifted towards
the sky
the back of
my head
resting on the tree
my hair
sitting on my shoulders
The sky
so clear
so blue
no clouds in sight
while the sun
basks in the glory
of the day
Up above me
a solitary bird
stretches its wings
as it sits
perched on a branch
I wish
I could fly
toss
turn
with nothing
below me
but sky
Yet I feel
chained
linked
to the ground
to the tree
which,
though it can't fly
can reach its arms up
like the tallest skyscraper
and brush,
ever slightly,
the sky
