It's funny how
We accept that the clouds hang above us,
Suspended in the sky.
We accept that the Sun rises in the day,
And the stars and the moon come out at night.
We accept that the bear sleeps in the winter,
And The birds flock north in the summer.
We accept that the leaves change in the fall,
And branches are bare in the winter.
But how is it that we cannot accept
The diversity and uniqueness of the people that surround us?

The author's comments:
I wrote this thinking of events in history such as slavery and the segregation act, and was wondering how people could look in the sky and see a big puffy mass of cloud just hanging there in midair, and then look at someone with colored skin and just think that is the weirdest thing.
