Shunning Dreamers
America came to be
because of those with hopes and dreams.
They wanted a better place to live.
We thank them for that.
Why do we shun the dreamers now?
We were taught to love everyone.
Those who had no home, or no point in life, anyone.
We were taught to treat everyone
with equal love and kindness.
Why do we shun those who could use a hand now?
We learned that no one deserved to be pushed away,
no matter what their past was.
To celebrate diversity and
to accept everyone's differences.
Why do we shun the others who are no different now?
Perhaps if it were to be the other way around.
If we were the ones looking, hoping, wishing
for a better life for those we loved.
Instead of them, we could see.
Do their eyes not reflect more than ours' do?
Shining with hope and dreams,
shards of life's own broken thoughts.
Lessons, to love, to hope, to appreciate, to try.
Tomorrow will be brighter
And if not for me, for others.
