Fizzy Failure
It's a hot day
and my throat is dry
like sand dunes
I need some coke
Walk to a soda machine
A light shines behind it
It's medicine from the heat
a massage for my throat
Put a coin through the slot,
Wish it well on its journey,
Press the coke button,
And smile to myself
The machine lets out a startling groan,
The golden light turns off,
And words flash on the machine:
SOLD OUT, NO MORE COKE
My smile disappears,
I mimic the machine's groan
Looks like no coke,
I'll just have to live with water
