Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long.
We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious.....And curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
-Walt Disney

A streak across the sky
Blinding, blinding, in the darkness
Upon the windblown trees
There I wait, in the freezing degrees

Waiting for what?
I know not
I wait for the strike
When the lightning will break the sky

Torrents of wind and rain surround
Squeezing me tightly
Thunder shakes the ground beneath me
As I wait

I glance at my watch
It is almost time
The electric field is ready
Waiting, waiting, waiting…

The breeze picks up
The clouds are charged
The time has come
The world around my flashes

I turn and walk home
I have seen for what I have waiting
For the lightning has knocked down the sky

The author's comments:
I wrote this for school during Poetry Month. I love to look at lightning, for it's so beautiful in its might. I am most reminded of a time I walked my dog in the drizzling rain, walking straight towards a forest where all the lightning was hitting (or rather appearing to be so).

Really? I've always seen storms as being very peaceful. There is no sound more soporific than the pitter-patter of rain on the roof. And thanx!

Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir your blood.

Hmm.  Very nice.  I like the building suspense.  The peaceful satisfaction in the end is an interesting contrast; peace and thunderstorms do not usually go together!

Wow I love the way you ended it... for the lightning has knocked down the sky...so pure, so visual, and so unique! I love your poems, even the saddest ones bring happiness to my heart.
