I’d gladly drink myself to sleep,
But can’t ‘cause then I’d dream too deep-
Get lost inside this troubled mind
Where only anguish I would find
From past mistakes and molestation
To me and those of God’s creation.
That inner pain doth move my pen
To write lost thoughts from way back when.
This troubled girl laid down and cried
When innocence had gone and died,
Corrupted by a so-called friend.
Conflicted thoughts would see no end.
Confused and lost with no way out,
Inside she’d cry and scream and shout.
The years rolled by. I learned to trust.
The aging hurt began to rust.
And though I’ve grown, it’s always there,
Reminding me of masks I wear
‘cause though I trust, inside I ache
As nighttime ghosts keep me awake.
Forever though, for sleep I’ll plead,
But we all know I won’t be freed.
So to the world, my secret keep.
And as for God, please let me sleep.
