Cycle of Pain
You say, 'What's done is done
So stop bringing up the past'
I smile sadly, then reply,
'If what you say is true
Than why won't the bruises
Leave my bleeding heart?'
You yell back defensively,
'I can't change the past
So stop bringing it up'
I stare thoughtfully back
Then reply, 'If what you say is true
Then why do I see regret
In those beautiful brown eyes?'
Looking down at ragged boots
You quietly say,
'I never meant for the cycle
Of hurt and pain to continue
And for it to be directed
Straight at you'
What happens next?
We never know
All we can do is wait out rainy days
And pray for rainbows
