Hockey Puck

It drops from the air,
and hits the ice with a clack.
The piercing whistle blows,
and my stick slaps the slippery surface.
A black object is launched,
then slides, until met by my fast moving body.
My hands manipulate it back and forth,
for its own protection, not to be stolen from the opponent.
I glide down the rink,
only the goal is in my sight.
Feeling the chilly air whoosh past my helmet grate,
is exhilarating.
Hearing it whip past my padded body,
is even more thrilling.
