Window sill, vast and empty
Re-live temptations that broke the bent me
Fatality slipping off the edge of the wood
White paint flaking, I’d hold on if I could
But there’s nothing to hold me back now
On the verge of falling, can’t turn around
And that’s what happened, but no one knew
My body didn’t fall, it flew.

Into the oblivion, I soared away
Spirits high enough to break the chain
And as the chink of metal hit the pavement
It came to me that I might should save it
Swooping low on the broiling street
My fingertips burned at the chains meet
Looked at my back, tried flapping higher
But to no avail, with my wings on fire
And too soon the ground could not repel
My body lay lifeless, right where it fell

Dead eyed stared up at the window sill
Peering through transparent eye-lids; flicker then still
Waiting for someone to come down this road
And put the pieces back, mend the old
Melted wings lay at the edge of my mind
Replaying the few moments I left this world behind
But my blood is cold now, my heart is pumped
Still looking at the window from where I jumped.

The author's comments:
I really liked this after I wrote it. It's like first she's saying she flew, then while she's falling, she's admitting it. But as soon as she hits the ground, she realizes she didn't fly or fall, she jumped off on purpose.
