Alone in the dew-kissed grass,
she watches the sunrise.
She sits wrapped in his woolen sweater as
she imagines
the week before he left.
He had said he would
love her
and never
would leave her.
He said he
had to catch a plane to Halifax
that weekend; he
would write to her
every day.
What he says he will do,
he will do.
She doesn't believe
she will love someone else
for the rest of her life.
The scent of soap from his old sweater
makes her think of
the memory of the boy who left her.

The memory of the boy who left her
makes her think of
the scent of soap from his old sweater.
For the rest of her life,
she will love someone else.
She doesn't believe
he will do
what he says he will do:
every day,
would write to her.
That weekend, he
had to catch a plane to Halifax.
He said he
would leave her
and never
love her.
He had said he would,
the week before he left.
She imagines
she sits wrapped in his woolen sweater as
she watches the sunrise,
alone in the dew-kissed grass.

The assignment: write a poem that makes sense when read backwards. The catch: make it mean something different the second time. Also check out "I'm Sorry" by me.

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Dude that's so creative! I've never seen or dreamt up anything like this!

I love this! I saw it in the magazine and fell.in.love. I have it in my binder with my favorite poems, lyrics, quotes, etc.

Thanks! It's hard, but once you start writing poems like this, they get kind of addictive! For a while I couldn't write a single poem without thinking about what it would sound like backwards :P
