Summer Nights
Laying in the grass
And watching
As the sun begins its descent
Down from the sky
Slowly
But not slowly enough
All too soon
The magnificent orange ball disappears
And with it
The streaks of color
Pinks
Dancing between violets and oranges
As the sun falls out of the sky
And the stars fill its place
Tiny blotches
So close
So distant
Watching us
As the moon vanishes behind a silver cloud
Lightning bugs
Blinking in the distance
