The Expiration Date
The more you act like an adult
The more you seem like a child
Sneers of witches you ignore
Yet I know inside you’re riled
Aged wooden beams laden with life
Make up the structure of this old pier
We stand with you through every storm
Our job is important, we want to be here
It takes strength to stand alone
A hidden weakness lies obscured
Cloaking that lingering insecurity
By lying to your own mind, word by word
Allow time pass in its own way
And as for youthfulness—don’t crush it
You’ll find it travels plenty quick
Without having to rush it
Of thoughtless games and glares
I ask, when will you tire?
Alone in the lonely solace you wonder
Secretly, when does innocence expire?
