I tried to catch the wind
in the pale palms of my hands
but it only bit my skin with icy teeth

I caught a butterfly
but it died
its fragile heart lost trying to be free

I stole the ocean
but it slipped away
wetting my fingertips with its tears

I cannot keep anything
that wants to be free
that's why I'm losing
you
