Genuphobia
I walk, stiff as a board
For I will not allow my knees to bend
One leg in front of the other
One step at a time
I watch people walk to their classrooms,
Their legs, old, crusty nails
About to fall apart any moment.
I run to sit down.
The fear is unbearable.
I watch, as everyone’s knees escape
From their body and humans fall,
Flat on the ground.
What happens now?
Do these people regret every
Step they have ever taken,
Wearing out their knees until
They fall apart?
I am the only intelligent individual.
I stand up from the icy, cold bench
And walk to class,
One leg in front of the other,
One step at a time.
