A Waltz
No, not now that I’ve talked about it, now it would mean something.
I would sit down to play; it would be the Waltz, it would have to be.
You would want it to go one of two ways:
Either
One, despite all I’ve said about
Disappointment, not being enough,
It would be Good
That would mean something.
Or
Two, it would be Bad. Maybe
Even worse than I’ve led you to expect;
An embarrassment, spectacular failure,
And that, too, would mean Something.
Both are tidy endings.
But,
It wouldn’t be Bad.
It wouldn’t be Good or Bad.
Only boring, upsettingly bland,
Every bit mediocre,
A small
“ . . .oh.”
