There Is Another Girl
There is another girl walking with me,
But this one isn’t here,
Not in this present or this circumstance.
She’s answering a question revealing
Thought, intelligence, humor, experience
That I can’t quite reach;
She’s in-step with her man, a solid presence
exuding
Care, stability, companionship, love
That I still don’t know;
She’s a point of focus for others attracting
Interest, attention, curiosity, fascination
That I never inspire.
This other girl has my appearances,
But better;
She tells my stories,
But wittier;
She leads my life,
But infinitely fuller.
The only thing this girl lacks is my
Imagination; and how I let it run wild and
Create better me’s.
