White, blank wall.
Isn’t is just easier to ignore
all the problems in your life?
He turns away,
sullen and staring
into the infinite space of the white wall.
Blank.
She stands barefoot,
Running her hands through her hair,
Trying to understand him.
Wishing to understand them.
Her gaze drifts from him as she
becomes lost in thought and confusion.
She wants to give up and go dance.
She wants to go dance barefoot on the soft carped floor,
her twirling blue skirt and pink ribbons
swirling around her
as she moves to the pounding sound of silence.
She wants his hand over her waist,
just like it used to be,
cradling the small of her back so softly,
his fingers playing with the soft
fabric of her silk shirt.
She always wanted to paint that wall.
Maybe yellow, her favorite color.
She wants more than these
blank walls, this sad man
sitting, lost in his own world.
She wants to dance
like they used to.
